About the Independent Theatre Workshop
The Independent Theatre Workshop was started
by Gillian Oman
in 1993 and now has schools in Ranelagh and Drumcondra offering
classes in all aspects of the performing arts. We run weekly classes
during term time and intensive courses during the summer holidays
catering for Boys and Girls of all ages and abilities. We also have a
thriving Youth Theatre Company; Independent Youth Theatre. We
cover a wide range of Drama, Singing and Dance styles and hope to
encourage a love of the arts in all it’s forms.
Not all the teaching is confined to the
classroom!
During the year we often go on trips to
the Theatre whenever there is something
suitable on. Last year we went to the Point,
The Helix, The Ark, The Gate, The Civic,
The Pavillion and The SFX. We also have
an annual trip to the West End in London
for the Seniors and Young Adults and bi-annual trips to Broadway, New York!
Guest teachers and specialists
We regularly invite guest teachers and specialists
in different aspects of theatre to run workshops last year these
included Percussion, Breakdance, Physical Theatre, Audition Technique,
Stage Combat, Make-Up and Salsa Dancing! We are also forging
strong links with Theatre Schools and Colleges in the UK and USA.

Short Play Festival
We like to promote our student’s
own talents and creativity, and also to
give everyone the chance to perform in
front of an audience. Every year we run
our own in house Original Short Play Festival.
All the students work together to write,
direct, produce and perform in their own
original short plays in front of their
friends and family and an invited panel
of judges (including top casting directors
and theatre professionals). Prizes are
awarded at the end of the weekend in a
range of categories. Last year over 240
students took part in 47 short plays!

School Shows
At the end of April 2006 ITW performed ‘Once
Upon a Time’
at the Liberty Hall Theatre in Dublin for 6 performances! All of
our students were involved both on stage and behind the scenes!
Check out the Galleries page to see photos of the production!
That was followed by performances by ITW in the Ranelagh Festival
in
September and the Mill Theatre, Dundrum in December and many of our
students will be performed professionally in The National Concert Hall, Gate Theatre and Olympia for Christmas.
