courses
School of Film
The 2009 Film course will take place later in the year
Interested in the Movies?
Going to college to study Film Making? Want to know about Acting,
Directing, Script Writing, Storyboarding, Film Studies and More? Or
would you just like to star in your own film? Come to the Independent
Theatre Workshop Film Summer School!
So, what’s it all about?
On our film course, we aim to give our
students a comprehensive knowledge of the techniques and skills
required to produce a short film on video, from the conception of the
original idea right through to the screening of the finished product.
The Script:
We will go through the process of
script writing, from pitching ideas, to the synopsis, step by step
structure, character analysis and finally the script and how to present
it.
The Storyboard:
We will explore the vital role of the
story board artist as the directors first vision of the film.
The Crew:
So what job would you like to do? From
Producer to Clapper Loader, every role on the film set will be
explained.
Top
The Editor:
Editing is a time consuming and
creative process. Professional editors produce one minute of air time
per one hour of editing time. Using the schools computers, we will put
together our finished films including sound fx, music and credits for
screening at the end of the course.
Our students will work together in teams to produce their own original
films. Although this course is fundamentally a hands-on course, they
will also be given comprehensive notes and handouts to take with them.
All students should bring pens, paper and
most importantly, their sense of fun and imagination!

including specialist workshops on audition technique, singing, dance,
drama, make-up, acting on camera, puppetry and theatre trips (where
available). Workshops depend on the nature of the show we are working
on and the specialist tutors available at the time.

Paul Burke; Fight Consultant on many feature films and theatre
productions including ‘King Arthur’ taught Stage Combat and

Musical
Theatre Summer
Courses 2009
This July, ITW
junior students had the chance to travel back in time and explore
the
wonderful world of the 60’s.
Where big hair, bright colours and groovy dance
routines were all the rage!
As
well as
learning song and dance routines from the musical HAIRSPRAY and staging
an
in-house
performance of the show at the end of the course, students also took
part
in a number of different workshops, covering a wide range of
activities. They recorded their own CD and saw 'Annie' in the Olympia!
The Drumcondra school performed WICKED and HONK and stunned us all with
their talent.
Specialist
Performing Arts Course 2009
This year our senior and young
adults got the
chance to improve their audition
techniques, make a show reel,
build up
a portfolio of monologues and
duologues, learn how to use your voice
for radio and recorded a
voiceover in a recording studio. They also participated in
Commedia del
Arte
(mask work) in performance and
drummed up a rhythm in a drumming
workshop. Theyl learned an
accent and
how to act in front of a camera.
They also had their headshot taken by a professional
photographer and showcased
a portfolio
and
work at the end of the course.

Stella
the Starfish is a
magical underwater tale with an
important message about being helpful to others. Stella the starfish is
found,
lost and alone, at the bottom of Sophie & Stephen's aquarium. When
the
children agree to help reunite Stella with her family, they are
transported
into the ocean by a magic conch shell. They seek the advice of the
colourful
sea creatures, but none are able or willing to help. Eventually they
arrive at
the mouth of Sid the shark's cave, hoping he will be able to help them.
Mysterious Sid sings them a riddle but then promptly disappears. Stella
and the
children follow Sid's instructions and are eventually able to find
Stella's
lost family.
We
did arts
and
crafts to
make our props and set and musical instruments for percussion.
To
get the kiddies in the mood of the musical we had a
special theme each day:
Beach
day
Sea
Creature Day
Magic
Day
We
can do it! day
